Collages
Collages are very unique and interesting for me all the time. There are so many ways one can create a collage. I am most inspired and influenced by many collage designers such as Romare Bearden, Jacob Lawrence and Lois Mailou Jones. I create collages using old paintings, glue and paper. The themes varies from women to music. I create collages that reflect my roots and traditions such as in my most recent collages entitled: Ethnic Woman 1-3, Musical Woman 1 – 2 and Symbolic Woman 1-5. In each of these collages, there is a different message and composition being presented.
While in my other collages, Eyes of A Mother, Abstractions, Black Art, Rhythm and Blues, Ancestral Symbols 1-3,Mask 1-2, and Man and Woman 1-6, there is a theme centered around relationships between the subject and the composition that is very distinctive.
For me creating collages is very always meaningful and natural, usually never know the end result.
